Monday, January 12th gave us the final George Bush press conference. Its pathetic protestations have been noted most of the day by the media. Perhaps the best statement was in Craig Ferguson's whimsical version of a late-night talk show. They played Bush's comments at a reduced speed where in fact the man's thought and expression seem more truly synchronized.
With a slight time delay, the personality defects and the deep self-knowledge of ineptitude, ignorance and corruption are revealed more clearly. The cheap theatrics of his sighs, false bravado, stagey pauses to show "reflection" and "vision" are more manifest in slowed down replay..in the same way as the genious of some deflection hockey goal, or the brilliance of a football interception.
What Rachel, Keith and Craig did to help de-construct this fin de siecle dry-drunk swaggering stagger to the finish line got topped before calling an end to the day.
